Notice to members and wider community – 18th July 2019

Some of you may be aware that the Boxted British Legion Club has had some difficulty in finding suitably qualified, experienced and motivated members to form a management committee. Consequently, there has been some speculation regarding the club continuing to trade as a social club affiliated to the Royal British Legion.

This notice is confirmation that unless we are able to form a full management committee within 28 days of the date of this notice (Thursday 15th August 2019), the club will lose its RBL licence to trade and arrangements to wind up the club will commence. It is noted that once the RBL licence is revoked there will be no prospect of it being reinstated.

The posts to be filled are listed below. Job descriptions are available for positions 1 to 3 from the Temporary Chairman by email at boxted.legion@gmail.com or by telephone on 07779 031923:

    1. Treasurer
    2. Secretary
    3. Chairperson
    4. Committee members (financial and associates)

Membership is open to everyone. If you have an interest in the objectives of the Legion and want to help and support those who have served and their families, come and join us. We welcome men and women of all ages, whether they have served in the Armed Forces or not.

    Boxted in 2019 photography competition

It’s not too late to enter the Boxted photography competition. The aim is to provide a contemporary record of Boxted in 2019 for the village archive as part of the fundraising activities for the repair of the roof and masonry of St. Peter’s Church, Boxted, which are both urgently in need of repair.

There will be 8 categories with winners in each category (including an under 16 winner in each category).

    Categories:

    1. Boxted’s Four Seasons
    2. Boxted Farming and Horticulture
    3. Boxted People
    4. Boxted Countryside including Wildlife, Trees and Wild Flowers
    5. Conservation and Risks to the Environment
    6. Boxted Leisure Activities
    7. Village Institutions, Activities & Events
    8. Signs of Boxted’s Past, including Buildings

The judge(s) will take into account the artistic and technical quality of the images and the insight into daily life in Boxted.

Judging will take place in January 2020 followed by an exhibition in the village of the winning images. It is also planned to publish a book of the winning images and possibly a calendar.

Entries will be £1 per image (50p for Under 16’s) with 50p for each image in excess of 10.

If you require further information about the competition or you wish to enter, send photographs to stephenwhybrow@msn.com
