Busy Jubilee for Methodist Band
Above: Members are seen here at Boxted
It was a busy Platinum Jubilee for Boxted Methodist Silver Band with three performances over the weekend.
The band performed firstly at Great Bentley Village Fete on the Saturday, and then on Sunday across the Suffolk border at Boxford before returning to their home village to play at a Jubilee Service on Boxted playing field followed by a concert.
Bill Kettle (seen below) – President of Boxted Methodist Silver Band – conducted the final number on Sunday.
The band is the only surviving Methodist Silver Band in England. It has 32 members, ranging in age from 14 to 89. They already have around 20 further bookings this year including a weekend in September with two performances at Dover Castle.
Deadline for Green Energy Consultation
On 21 April 2022, National Grid launched a non-statutory Consultation concerning a major project to reinforce the electricity transmission network from Norwich to Tilbury as the first stage in the process applying for a Development Consent Order (DCO) to the Planning Inspectorate (PINS). The following report sets out the response by Colchester Borough Council to this initial strategic consultation:

A petition has been set up to ‘SAY NO TO 180km of Essex Suffolk Norfolk pylons’ and is asking the Government to look realistically to the green future and build a strategic offshore grid instead. You can find the petition at www.pylonseastanglia.co.uk or you can write to local MP Sir Bernard Jenkin – bernard.jenkin.mp@parliament.uk who is chair of OffSET (the Off-Shore Electricity Grid Task Force).
Boxted Primary School pupils cycle training
Bikeability cycle training equips children with vital life skills. Pupils not only learn to cycle, but they also gain independence, social skills, and a sense of wellbeing.
The year 6 children from Boxted St Peter’s CEVC Primary took to the roads to learn valuable road safety skills and earn their Bikeability level 2 badge. They were doing a brilliant job on the roads of Boxted earlier and the instructors were very impressed.
