Boxted Village Hall AGM

Wednesday 29 September at 7.30 pm
Boxted Village Hall

Faces of the Village

Jim, one of Boxted’s postman, is having his round revised and will no longer be delivering to Boxted. Jim, known as the singing postman, says it he will miss the round and all the people he has met. He has seen babies born and grow up, people come and go and thoroughly enjoyed the last 18 years serving the village.

At the first meeting of the group since lockdown an illustrated talk was given by Paula Short on “The Life and Loves of Coco Chanel”. From humble origins she rose to being one of the most famous fashion designers and her perfume ranges are still worn by millions today.

The next meeting, Thursday 14 October 7.30 pm at the Community Centre , will be a fun evening with a quiz and an added surprise. Any ladies wishing to join the group or to come as a guest, please telephone Gill Brown on 01206 273286.

Save Our Bridge!

George Double’s house in Southwold

The 1881 Census records George Double’s wife Emma living at 32 Victoria Street, Southwold with her nephew Frederick Joseph Laws. This would have been a convenient location for the family whilst her husband built the Blyth Bridge in 1879 for the Southwold Railway Co under the chairmanship of Richard Rapier. It was also close to Martyn Lodge, Southwold of which George Double was a Founding Member in 1882 until his death in Ipswich in 1916.

A dedicated email address ( boxtedenquiries@essexhighways.org ) has been set up to support the public with any questions relating to the structure that are not already answered on the webpage.
