All Essex libraries to close due to Coronavirus

Following careful consideration and Government guidance on Coronavirus, all Essex libraries and mobile libraries will be closed until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and will let you know as soon as normal service resumes.

All loans will be extended, overdue charges will be automatically waived and reservations suspended.

We are making arrangements to ensure people can attend appointments with Registrars who are currently based in some of our libraries.

In this time, we are working to enhance our digital service for people to continue using the library service.

Our e-library is online 24/7 https://libraries.essex.gov.uk/e-books-e-audio-e-magazines-and-book-groups/e-books-and-e-audio/with thousands of eBooks, eAudiobooks eComics, eMagazines and eNewspapers available through Borrowbox RBdigital and PressReader.

We are buying more titles for our eLibrary to give you more choice and working with our suppliers to enable new customers joining online to be able to access these services quickly and without needing to collect a library card from a library. This has already been enabled for RBdigital and Borrowbox.

So, if you’re unexpectedly stuck at home download the apps on your own device, sign in with your library card number and start reading today!

We also have a range of online learning and reference resources available to use from home. https://libraries.essex.gov.uk/reference-and-courses-online/free-courses/

    Walking back to happiness …

Good for your health and well-being, walking is one of the simple pleasures many of us can enjoy during ‘lockdown’. You can get all the local public footpath routes from the interactive PROW map, available at https://www.essexhighways.org/getting-around/public-rights-of-way/prow-interactive-map.aspx.

Remember, if you’re walking with your four-legged friend, please clear up the poo. Dedicated bins are available outside the Royal British Legion on Straight Road, Boxted and also around the playing fields at both Boxted and Langham.

    Church services

The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have written a letter asking that all churches stop holding services from now until further notice.

In the meantime, those churches which are currently open, will continue to be open, should you wish for a place for quiet reflection and solace.
