    Be part of something special

In order to make Boxted 10k unforgettable for the runners and spectators, volunteers are needed for the event. We had a great response from the village in 2018 and 2019, and hopefully can this year.

We will make sure you get all the information and equipment you need to volunteer.

We will provide you with a bottle of water whilst volunteering during the race and tea/coffee or soft drink when the race has finished at the school.

You can find out more information about volunteering at  www.boxted10k.co.uk/volunteer or email at boxted10k@boxtedrunners.co.uk

    Busy year for Boxted Band

Boxted Methodist Silver Band – the only surviving Methodist Silver Band in England – has a busy schedule for the rest of the year with more than 20 bookings already planned and with several more to be arranged for December which traditionally has been the Band’s busiest month of the year leading up to Christmas.

The events include Sunday August 14 with a performance, from 1pm to 3pm, at Colchester Castle Park bandstand.

The band was formed in 1898, but following the closure by Colchester Methodist Circuit of Boxted Methodist Church in July 2019 it has been independent. However, it remains true to its Methodist tradition with attendances at church services as well as a wider repertoire of music for non-religious concerts.

Already this year it has played at the annual daffodil service at Methodist Central Hall in London, the “cathedral” to Methodism, and at a concert in Stoke-by-Nayland Church.

The biggest event for the Band’s 32 members is in September when over the second weekend they will be playing at Dover Castle, on the Saturday evening at a concert and during Sunday morning in a church service. The weekend has been arranged with the Bishop of Dover, the Rt Rev Rose Hudson-Wilkin, who was previously the Speaker’s Chaplain when the Band’s Chairman, Sir Bob Russell, was Colchester’s MP. She readily accepted Sir Bob’s offer for the Band to play in Dover.

First of the forthcoming events is on Saturday June 4 when the Band will play in the afternoon at Great Bentley Jubilee Fete. The next day, during lunchtime over the Suffolk border, they will play at Boxford Jubilee Fete before returning to their home village of Boxted for a Jubilee Service at 3.30pm at Boxted Village Hall and playing field.

Details of other events will be given as the year progresses.
