    Faces of the Village

    Jill Graves

Jill is the child welfare officer for Colchester City Ladies Football club whose home ground is at Boxted playing field. Jill and her family have lived in Boxted for the last 18 years.

Jill’s daughter Erin, joined the club in 2016 and as a result of Jill regularly watching from the sidelines, she was asked if she would like a role on the committee. Karl, Erin’s father, now has responsibility for social media which has a natural cross over with the role of child welfare.

Jill’s undertook the FA’s safeguarding and welfare officer training courses. Safeguarding is very important to the club and this year, as part of the FA’s “Play Safe” campaign, she met with captains from all of the teams. One of the issues that they discussed was the behaviour of adults who are watching them play. The girls, some as young as 7, have witnessed grown-ups shouting abuse at the referees, their coaches and other parents. Their message is clear; cheer us on and let us have fun!  The poster that they made is now displayed pitch side at all home games.

The club welcomes new players, it aims to be inclusive and particularly welcomes younger players who can build up their experience ready for when they join the older teams. The Under 8’s team needs a manager before they can enter the league.

If there are any local businesses who would be interested in sponsoring a team, they are always keen to hear from you!

Enquires about coaching, joining a team or sponsoring can be made via social media (Colchester City Ladies FC) or by email  info@colcitylfc.co.uk

    Save our Bridge update

    Seeing is believing.

The Environment Agency’s Flood Map for Planning needs correcting. Boxted bridge is not in Flood Zone 3 it is in Flood Zone 3b, the functional flood plain.

The protestor group Save Our Bridge disagrees with Essex Highway’s assessment of Boxted Bridge. Read the recent article in the Gazette here .
