Say no to pylons

Please give a thought to Boxted residents who could be impacted by the preposterous 50m high pylons (height of a 15-story building) being proposed to cut cross Langham and Straight Roads heading diagonally to Queens Head Road area across to Great Horkesley. We have yet to confirm but suspect the pylons will be visible from all scenic viewpoints in Boxted (we will reconfirm shortly).

Why should you care? So much of our beautiful Essex, Suffolk & Norfolk countryside is at risk.  Through the Dedham Vale AONB, the cables will be buried underground, reducing the visual impact of pylons but causing catastrophic damage to the environment as the undergrounding operation involves cutting a swathe of countryside 120m wide for the whole of the undergrounded section. Crops, meadows, hedges and trees will all be removed along this swathe and simply won’t recover, particularly within several metres of the buried cables where they won’t be allowed to recover.  There will be a huge and permanent habitat loss along 180km of pylons: local wildlife will be displaced, trees and hedgerows destroyed and bird strikes with cable are at risk. You can give a voice to our wildlife friends by acting now!

Say YES to offshore grid, a coordinated offshore grid for East Anglia saves consumers £2bn and requires 50% less infrastructure.

Say NO to pylons, they are unpopular, old fashioned and unnecessary and require a huge infrastructure to support.

  1. Visit:  www.pylonseastanglia.co.uk
  2. Mail the flyer you received in your letter box recently to the Secretary of State. Or pop it in the box at Harpers Café, opposite Boxted Village Hall and we will post for you. If you prefer email:  shappsg@parliament.uk    Deadline: 5 September, 2023 .
  3. Feedback directly to National Grid re 2 nd  Consultation:
    contact@n-t.nationalgrid.com     Deadline: 21 August, 2023.
  4. Email your MP Bernard Jenkin:  bernard.jenkin.mp@parliament.uk

Start all objections with “There is no need for this destructive project. We want an integrated offshore grid in the North Sea as it has been shown by National Grid ESO to save £2bn and reduces overall infrastructure by 50%.

Any motivated residents wanting to join the “Boxted Against Pylons” group are invited to contact  cllr.jon.hunt@boxted-pc.gov.uk  or follow us on Facebook  www.facebook.com/boxtedagainstpylons .

In the Community

Essex County Council is undertaking a review of local bus services which are paid for by Essex taxpayers.  It does not cover services/journeys operated commercially by transport providers . This review covers all 12 districts in Essex with the view of assessing whether to continue providing the service and in what capacity; or whether to look for alternative solutions.

This consultation will close on 5 October 2023.
