Methodist band’s all-day workshop
Boxted Methodist Silver Band – England’s only surviving Methodist Silver Band – held an all-day workshop on Sunday as preparations began for a busy year ahead, which will include a weekend playing at Dover Castle and a repeat visit to Methodist Central Hall in London.
A dozen bookings for 2022 have already been confirmed, with others certain to follow based on past years and thanks to the Band’s growing reputation.
Sunday’s workshop was held in Nayland Village Hall. Nayland is one of half-a-dozen villages in the area which supports the Band with invitations to church services and other village events. The Band also plays in Colchester.
Boxted Methodist Silver Band has 34 members, with ages ranging from 14 to 89. It was formed in 1898. Following the closure of Boxted Methodist Church in 2019 it is now based at Fillpots Garden Centre in Boxted Straight Road.
Pipeline improvement
Anglia Water has an update on the proposed pipeline between Bury St Edmunds and Colchester.
The will come through Boxted.
The Strategic Pipelines Team writes:
“It is part of a huge, interconnecting network which will help combat the impact of climate change and keep fresh, clean water flowing across our region. The total investment will be about £400 million and, once complete, our new pipelines will be longer than any UK motorway.
Download the pdf which shows the full pipeline plans . Pages 20-22 are relevant to our area.
