Fostering a child
Could you make a difference to a child’s life?
Foster carers with Essex County Council help build better, brighter futures for hundreds of children across Essex every year.
Could you provide a loving, safe, stable home and a nurturing environment to support the most vulnerable children in our county grow in confidence and achieve their potential?
You don’t need any specific qualifications to foster, just patience, time and a commitment to improving children’s lives.
To find out more come along to one of Essex County Council’s local events where you can hear first-hand from experienced foster carers, find out more about the children that need foster care and ask a social worker questions.

Hornestreet Nature Reserve comes of age!
After almost 20 years, volunteers from Langham, Essex, in conjunction with the Dedham Vale AONB have established a small Nature Reserve in the village for the benefit of the local community.
In the early 1900`s land in this part of Langham was known as Hornestreet. The field was part of a small farm with outbuildings and eventually a fruit farm up to 1975. In 1999 a small group of Langham residents purchased the field and included a small pond that had dried up elsewhere in the village.
Since 1999, many local people have helped in the initial design work, tree planting work and many village residents have donated trees in support of this initiative.
Today a fine selection of trees, and hedging are now well established providing an excellent site for conservation learning. The Dedham Vale AONB team have been so helpful in developing this site which will now be known as Hornestreet Nature Reserve.
The venue is used by the Langham Primary school for conservation education as well as the Langham Pre- school and the Langham Scout group. The site also hosts undergraduates from London University as part of their course programme while staying at Flatford.
