    Cars of the Village

Some of you may have seen Chas Bazeley and his rescue dog Pepper buzzing around the village in this 1956 landrover.

Originally a military vehicle, its specification suggests it was equipped as a front-line fighting vehicle and may have seen service with the Army during the uprisings in the British protectorate of Aden leading up to independence in 1959.

It was registered as a civilian vehicle in 1964 and had several owners before being bought from a scrapyard in 1990 by a Wiltshire farmer and fitted with a 6 cylinder Rover saloon engine and power steering for his wife to use for off-road trialling. She competed successfully with it for a few seasons, winning several trials, and then it was left in storage for 20 years before being advertised on eBay, where Chas bought it and mechanically restored it to roadworthy condition. He now uses it as his everyday vehicle.
