Road Closures
From 21 January 2019:
Junction The Causeway and Boxted Road to Junction Boxted Road and Holly Lane Great Horkesley CO6 4AP
Access required to BT under ground structure for cabling and jointing works and overhead cabling and jointing works. No excavation work involved.
Wet Lane Boxted
Wet Lane, Boxted from a point approximately 85m north of its junction with Green Lane for a distance of approximately 30m in a northerly direction.
The closure is scheduled to commence on 21st January 2019 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AD03010536924 – Anglian Water). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on www.roadworks.org.
The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while disconnection works are undertaken by Anglian Water.
An alternative route is available via Green Lane, Road From Boxted Church Road To Green Lane, Boxted Church Road, Church Road and vice versa.
Access for emergency service vehicles and pedestrians will be maintained at all times during the closure.
Residents, businesses and local organisations are invited to view the exhibition on the proposed new mixed use development at Colchester Northern Gateway (Land South of Axial Way).
Comments are invited in advance of the planning application to be submitted late February 2019.
The exhibition will be staffed at the following venues:

Rugby Club, Mill Road CO4 5JF – 23rd January 2019: 5pm to 7pm

BOXTED IN 2019
photography competition
Our aim is to provide a contemporary record of Boxted in 2019 for the village archive as part of the fundraising activities for the repair of the Roof and Masonry of St. Peter’s Church, Boxted, which are urgently in need of repair.
There will be 8 categories and with winners in each category (including an Under 16 winner in each category).
Categories:
• Boxted’s Four Seasons
• Boxted Farming and Horticulture
• Boxted People
• Boxted Countryside including Wildlife, Trees and Wild Flowers
• Conservation and Risks to the Environment
• Boxted Leisure Activities
• Village Institutions, Activities & Events
• Signs of Boxted’s Past, including Buildings
The Judge(s) will take into account the artistic and technical quality of the images and the insight into daily life in Boxted.
Judging will take place in January 2020 followed by an exhibition in the village of the winning images. It is also planned to publish a book of the winning images and possibly a calendar.
Entries will be £1 per image (50p for Under 16’s) with 50p for each image in excess of 10.

Cold Calling Intruder Alarm Companies
Considering an intruder alarm? Think twice before you consider taking an offer up from a cold calling intruder alarm company. Quite often they will use high pressure sales tactics, make you an offer that appears to be too good to be true, somewhere may be concealed charges. If you are told the alarm goes through direct to the police then “alarm bells” should ring, the police do notmonitor intruder alarms, they go to a commercial central monitoring station who contact police on a confirmed activation and if a certain criteria is fulfilled and resources are available then police attend.
With any cold callers, stop give yourself time to think about what is being offered, do a little research before coming to a decision, speak to friends or family, don’t be rushed. Remember “if it appears too good to be true invariable it is” and “you get nothing for nothing”. If you need something done or purchased speak to neighbours and friends and take on a trader by personal recommendation, or Trading Standards “Buy with Confidence” scheme http://www.buywithconfidence.gov.ukor call 0345 404 0506.
Gone are the days when an alarm was an indication you have something to steal, there are so many out there now, and it has been proven that having an intruder alarm is a strong deterrent to burglars. Self-install or installed system, wired or wireless, bells only or self-monitored or call centre monitored, there are pros, cons and financial implications to each. In April there is a Community event at the Boxted Village hall which is where the police and other organisations get together so that the local community can pop in and raise any issues that they may have.
Local Community Meetings (LCM) are multi agency problem solving groups, working alongside the local community to address crime, anti-social behaviour and quality of life issues.
There are a number of members including:

• Community leaders

• Resident’s Associations
Each LCM serves to identify and achieve short, medium and sustainable long term solutions to local community needs.
Police will Chair the meetings.
• CBC Community Safety will continue to offer support and where possible a Zone Manager or Warden will attend each meeting and represent CBC.
