St Peter’s Church Tower Repair Fund

    Fundraising through eBay.

As you may have read in the Parish newsletter, the tower at St. Peter’s Church is urgently in need of some very expensive repairs.

St Peters, which is a Grade 1 listed building, is not only a most lovely Norman church, but almost certainly the oldest and most notable building in Boxted. St Peter’s is available for baptisms, weddings and funerals and is left open for visitors everyday.

Contrary to popular opinion, the Church of England is not wealthy and does not have large sums of money in reserve for the maintenance of its buildings which are the reponsibiiity of the local Parochial Church Council. A considerable part of the cost of this work will therefore have to be met through local fund raising.

As a contribution towards the fundraising efforts, Patsy Ann Maggs has undertaken to sell any unwanted domestic items that you may willing to donate through her eBay account. The PCC would be most grateful if you could help to raise some money for the church in this way while at the same time taking the opportunity to clear out your cupboards.

What can be sold on eBay?

    Virtually anything! For example:

household items such as china, glass, cutlery, kitchen utensils,

furniture, rugs, cushions, curtains, duvet covers

doors, worktops, tiles, bricks, paving slabs

machinery, electrical equipment (broken items may also sell for the spare parts.)

fabric (including remnants), knitting wool, craft materials, offcuts of all sorts.

garden planters, bags of topsoil, greenhouse staging,

antiques, coins, collectables, art, stamps and ornaments

musical instruments, jewellery and watches, cameras

    sports equipment, toys, dolls

These items may be used or unused.

If in doubt, go to https://www.ebay.co.uk and in the box which says

“Search for anything” type in a few key words to describe your item

and see whether anything similar comes up.

What do I need to do?

Once you are ready to sell an item please contact Patsy Ann on 01206 273195 or at maggs_family@btinternet.com  to arrange a visit.

In order to list your items on the eBay website Patsy Ann will need to write an accurate description and take some photographs and measurements.

If your item is small enough to post, she will also need a suitable box so that she is able to despatch it immediately after it has been sold. For this reason, any spare cardboard boxes that you are able to donate are also likely to be very useful.

Larger items that Patsy Ann cannot transport will have to be collected by the purchaser directly from your home so please let her know if you are likely to be away for any length of time.

Are some items difficult to sell?

This depends to some extent on how they are priced.

Books fetch little money unless they are rare and in good condition.

Clothes sell well if they are from popular brands and in excellent condition. Any unsaleable items can be put into our declutter sale in the summer.

How soon can I do this?

It takes a little while to list each item on the eBay website,

so Patsy Ann intends to spread the task over the next few months.

Just let Patsy Ann know when you are ready and she can fix a date to begin.
