Volunteer(s) needed to assist Boxted Parish Council in Community Hub and Playing Field consultation

Money has become available from Colchester Borough Council to assist in enhancing facilities which will benefit the whole community. Two contributions have been allocated to Boxted:

    • Community Facilities Contribution (“for the management of playing fields or the Community Hub”)
    • Open Space Sports and Recreation Contribution (“for improvement and enhancement of King George Playing Field with a specific need to improving the Community Hub”)

Any residents who are interested in volunteering with the parish council and Colchester Borough Council to research/decide how the money should be spent can show an expression of interest by contacting the clerk: Karen Thompson on boxtedparishcouncil@gmail.com.  Ideally they would have some experience in either research and delivery of consultations or delivering large or community based projects.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference to our community.

    Langham Community Shop

    New volunteers needed

We have been open for almost 15 years and are run solely by volunteers.

The Shop is becoming more popular and used on a daily basis by many in the village and beyond.

We are looking for new volunteers to help run this important asset to the community.

There are four shifts per day during the week –  two on Saturday and one on Sunday, all around two hours each, with two volunteers working together.  Full training will be given.  There is the option of working a regular shift or to fill gaps in the rota when they occur.  You just need to add your name to the rota for a shift that suits you best, no commitment is needed.

If you would like to help us run this valuable local shop or would like more information,
please contact our Volunteer Co-ordinator,  Cath Hine on 01206 322274

    Festival of Arts & Flowers
    Langham Church
    1976 – 2000

Ian Hollands is writing a record of the popular Festival of Arts and Flowers, which was held at Langham Church for 25 years. He has very few pictures of the event and if anyone has any photographs of it he would very much like to borrow them for scanning and attachment to the record.

Please contact Ian if you can help: ianhollands33@gmail.com, (230525).

#MakeADifference and have your say on policing priorities in Essex

Roger Hirst – Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex
“Three and a half years ago, we asked you what wanted from Essex Police.

Working with police officers, staff and volunteers, as well as partners from across Essex, we took what you told us and developed the 2016 Police and Crime Plan. The plan set out our seven policing priorities to protect Essex, which are:

    • More local, visible and accessible policing
    • Crack down on anti-social behaviour
    • Breaking the cycle of domestic abuse
    • Reverse the trend in serious violence
    • Tackle gangs and organised crime
    • Protecting children and vulnerable people
    • Improve safety on our roads

We have been working hard with partners over the last three and a half years to deliver against the Police and Crime Plan. Working together with you, we have achieved a lot.

Working with Essex Police, we have built a more modern, efficient and effective force, that is growing and better connected to our communities. Highlights include:

    • Delivering the funding to enable Essex Police to be a growing force. It will have 368 more officers by April 2020 than it had in 2016. Essex also has the second largest and fastest growing Special Constabulary in the country.
    • Working to bring the numbers of incidents relating to anti-social behaviour, burglary and theft down.
    • Leading the fight against gangs, county lines and violence with the development of a specialist Violence Reduction Unit.

However, our challenges are continuing to change and we know we need to do more to tackle violence in our communities and see the reduction we have achieved in anti-social behaviour, burglary and theft mirrored in violent crime and drugs.

We want to prevent crime happening in the first place and we can achieve this by working with you so there is no space for criminals to thrive, as well as ensuring the most vulnerable people in communities remain safe.

You have seen how we can #MakeADifference. Now I’d ask you to #MakeADifference and tell us what you want from your police force for the next four years so we can shape our next Police and Crime Plan.

You can fill in our survey here: https://www.essex.pfcc.police.uk/make-a-difference/

Hard copies of the survey will also available in local libraries or you can call the office on 01245 291600 to request one.

For more details about how we have been working with Essex Police over the past three and a half years go to our website: www.essex.pfcc.police.uk
