    St Peter’s church tower restoration

Now that the scaffold has been removed, the full benefits of the repair and replacement works are revealed.

Extensive re-pointing in lime mortar has been carried out at high level. In addition the weathered honey-coloured stone dressings to the quoins and buttresses have been skilfully replaced to match the existing material.

The flat roof has been re-covered in lightweight stainless steel rather than lead for obvious reasons, and should now be watertight for the foreseeable future if not another thousand years!!

Hopefully, the bats will make a return now that the works are complete.

Grateful thanks for all who contributed to the repair fund.

    Who remembers Jim Honeyset?

Does anyone recall a Jim Honeyset who used to live on the Straight Road, Boxted?

If so, Douglas (01473 313073) would love to talk to you to follow up on Jim’s friendship with Douglas’s father.
