    Church services

    Sunday 11 September

9.30 am Eucharist at St Peter’s Boxted

Saying goodbye to faces of the village

Alison Phillips sadly died recently. She was a Boxted girl born and bred and lived and worked in the village all her life.

After studying horticulture at Writtle College and spending time working at a couple of other nurseries Alison returned to her family home and set up ‘The Cottage Garden’ in Langham Road.

The nursery was gradually built up over the years with extra land purchased, barns repaired and glasshouses built all achieved by Alison’s hard graft and vision. She propagated her own plants and sold antique and quality artefacts together with garden accessories in the barn.

Following her retirement Alison married Ted Phillips and enjoyed life to the full whilst still participating in the community.

Known for her kind and thoughtful nature Alison will be missed by her many friends and acquaintances.

The funeral will be held at St Peter’s Church, Boxted on Wednesday 28 September at 1 pm.

The photo shows Alison in her garden at The Cottage Garden. Being very hospitable there was always a home made cake to offer visitors.
