    Road news

    Cllr Lewis Barber

You may be aware of recent media reports that in the prevailing financial climate the Government is unable to fund the upgrade of the A120 to a dual carriageway between Braintree and the A12. Currently, no decision has been made and Essex County Council is liaising with the Department for Transport for further information and to keep up pressure for the funding to be preserved.

The A12 widening project between Chelmsford and Marks Tey, overseen by National Highways is progressing. Essex County Council supports the principal of the widening but has objected to National Highways’ junction proposals. There are various reasons for these objections but the main one is the impact of the junctions which will cause increased volumes of traffic on the local road network. We will keep the community updated on these two key road schemes and I am attending regular briefings on this matter.

The £35 million investment in resurfacing the A12 between Marks Tey and Stanway has begun. The works are expected to last until late 2023 or early 2024 with the road kept open by a contraflow system. We are liaising with National Highways and Essex Highways to ensure that the impact on the local road network is minimised.
