Boxted Bridge – Planning App re-consultation

Thank you to Babergh for sending out notices that Essex Highways have submitted additional documents, drawings and plans (all dated 31.10.2022) . Interested parties have until Nov 22nd to comment. Presumably this applies also to Essex CC.

S.O.B. will review these and advise accordingly. We note that Highways have not gone back to the drawing board. This was widely requested, and we had hoped they might be persuaded. We must insist on unprejudiced and transparent comparison of their proposal with the alternatives, positively recommended by independent experts, including their own.

    Watch this space.

    Laurence O’Hagan

    A tribute from Arabella Brentnall

It is with much sadness that I have to report that the Good Neighbours scheme has lost, very recently and suddenly, one of its most treasured volunteers, and Secretary to the Scheme. He wrote a lovely article about the Good Neighbours which was published in last month’s edition.

Laurence O’Hagan died at home in Boxted on Saturday 22 October. His funeral will take place at Boxted Church , 2pm on Friday 25 November, and afterwards at The Crown, Stoke by Nayland.

I only knew Laurence recently, since October 2020, a couple of years or so after he moved to Boxted.

But in that short time I came to admire his enthusiasm for helping all sorts of people, way and beyond his official duties on the Good Neighbours Scheme. Even if his low slung Mercedes Coupe was not the most practical of cars in which to transport those in need to important appointments.

Even outside his Volunteering activities, he was a great drinking companion to many in the Village of Boxted. Indeed, the last night before he died, he was out with his friends. I am sure that it would have amused him greatly to know that his last few hours were spent so very happily.

His Irish wit and conversation, boundless ideas and real dedication, which endeared him to so many, will be sorely missed by us all.

I know that he leaves behind a son, of whom he talked of often to me, as well as his former wife with whom he remained on very good terms. Our best wishes are sent to them.
