    Beautiful Boxted

    A fogbow!

Anybody out walking on the morning of Monday 28 November on the footpath between Cage Lane and Straight Road would have seen a rather rare meteorological phenomenon known as a Fogbow. These occur when a bank of fog is illuminated by a low Sun (typically around 30-40 degrees high). Fogbows are superficially similar in size and appearance to a normal rainbow, and in all but the rarest cases exhibit no colour and appear white. Fogbows happen because light from the Sun is reflected within the tiny water droplets, exiting in a diffuse path that smears out any colours, unlike the well-defined optical paths that create colourful rainbows.
