Boxted Parish Council continues to object to the National Grid Norwich to Tilbury powerline, part of “The Great Grid Upgrade”, formerly “East Anglia GREEN”. The current non-statutory consultation runs until 21st August 2023, so there is still time to submit your views.

The BPC has objected on the grounds of loss of countryside amenity, damage to the countryside character, damage to ecosystems and wildlife (with undergrounding of cables through the Dedham Vale AONB being extremely damaging) and also on the grounds of poorly established justification; particularly when compared to the potential benefits of an offshore connection. Our objection however only registers as one voice, so this is a situation where truly every voice and opinion is valuable. We need as many people as possible to speak up if we are to get National Grid to listen and adapt or reinvent their proposal.

Comments and opinions can be submitted online here:  https://norwich-tilbury.participatr.io/

A printable copy of the feedback form is available here:  https://www.nationalgrid.com/ele…/document/149181/download

Additional consultations will be open in the future, so please keep an eye out for them and respond to each one. Silence and non-engagement are considered agreement in these situations, unfortunately.

There is a very successful and professionally run campaign group, headed up by Rosie Pearson (of West Tey fame). Their group “Essex Suffolk Norfolk Pylons” can be found on facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/718238339216424  ) with many of their posts and advice being shared out onto other media platforms. They have garnered a great deal of press attention and are backed by professional legal and planning advice.

Any motivated residents wanting to form a “Boxted vs The Pylons” group to help distribute leaflets/flyers and feedback forms are invited to contact  cllr.jon.hunt@boxted-pc.gov.uk . This group would follow the example of the Essex Suffolk Norfolk Pylons group, and assist in spreading their good work, recommendations, and posters/fliers to those in the village who perhaps are not as aware of the impacts of the current proposals.

Essex County Council is undertaking a review of local bus services which are paid for by Essex taxpayers.  It does not cover services/journeys operated commercially by transport providers . This review covers all 12 districts in Essex with the view of assessing whether to continue providing the service and in what capacity; or whether to look for alternative solutions.

This consultation will close on 5 October 2023.
