North Colchester Men’s Shed
Based locally, the volunteers keep busy making and or repairing various items, often re-purposing materials which might otherwise be destined for landfill.

Boxted given two ‘Dark Sky Hero Awards’ after light pollution changes

A member from the Dedham Vale National Landscape Dark Skies Campaign was contacted by Boxted Parish Council about plans to install new lighting in the Hall car park. To minimise the impact of light pollution and to help protect local wildlife, it was agreed that two lighting stanchions would be installed in front of existing trees to reduce any light spillage to Cage Lane residents.

The new lighting stanchions, fitted with warm temperature, low wattage, wildlife-friendly LED fixtures, are angled downwards to light the car park without creating unnecessary light pollution. The success of the campaign and the resulting light fittings can be seen below.

Our Boxted Evergreen Club meet in the village hall every four weeks from 2.00pm to 3.30pm. Anyone wishing to come along would be given a warm welcome. Our members are always asked for their suggestions before our yearly entertainment programme is arranged, so we do try our best to cater for everyone.
