Boxted Parish Council has submitted its response to the National Grid Norwich to Tilbury powerline proposal.
You can read the response at the link below:
https://boxtedparishcouncil.org.uk/national-grid-green-energy-project/
In support of local residents and the ‘Essex Suffolk Norfolk Pylons Campaign’ group, Boxted PC has objected to the power line proposal, primarily on the grounds of the unacceptable damage to countryside and environment in and around Boxted, but also due to the fact alternative options have not been suitably explored by National Grid.
You can keep up to date with the local campaign against the current proposals at https://www.facebook.com/boxtedagainstpylons/ and follow the larger regional campaign group at https://pylonseastanglia.co.uk/
A12 update
Here’s some recent correspondence from Cllr Lewis Barber regarding the ongoing roadworks on the A12.
“I attended Marks Tey Market today where National Highways and its contractor had a stand to discuss the A12 works.
“The investment is much needed and welcome, and there will always be disruption with roadworks, but I also want to ensure the works are being done in the best way possible while minimising the negative effects of them.
“The A12 works continue to have a considerable impact and so I wanted to ensure I took the opportunity to raise some of the matters I am aware of and also more generally discuss the works.
“A few key points from my conversations:
- The works are necessary to ensure the longevity of the A12’s condition.
- Estimated completion is Spring 2024.
- The southbound works are due to commence in September 2023 as current focus is on the northbound. This will mean the contra-flow system being changed.
- I queried that often it appears there are few people working on the A12 at any one time. The contractor explained that the road is worked on in phases due to access and width constraints. The contractor said it can seem there are long stretches with nobody working as work focus is on one area. In response to my question whether it could be done any quicker with additional resources, the contractor did not feel it could be while keeping the road open. Closing the road was considered too detrimental.
- A speed camera car is being deployed to assist in ensuring adherence to speed limits on local roads.
- Additional signage will now be installed to deter vehicles using local roads instead.
- National Highways reiterated it remains quicker to travel between Marks Tey and Stanway than using local roads to bypass the works.
“I hope this update is useful. I will continue to liaise with National Highways on issues raised with me by the impact of the works. They are attending another event on 30th September in Marks Tey.”

In the Community

Essex County Council is undertaking a review of local bus services which are paid for by Essex taxpayers. It does not cover services/journeys operated commercially by transport providers . This review covers all 12 districts in Essex with the view of assessing whether to continue providing the service and in what capacity; or whether to look for alternative solutions.
This consultation will close on 5 October 2023.
