Langham’s Annual Assembly
Langham’s Annual Assembly (aka the Annual Parish Meeting, but not to be confused with a Parish Council Meeting) will be held on 1st June 2023 at the Langham Community Centre commencing at 7.30pm. This meeting is an assembly of the village electorate and it is an opportunity for the residents to discuss and debate issues in an open forum. The Parish Council will facilitate the meeting but it is not a Parish Council meeting and the content should be determined by Langham residents. If you have any appropriate issues that are important to you and you would like discussed at the meeting in an open forum, please would you notify the Parish Clerk so that they can be included in the agenda that the Parish Council will publish. We encourage all residents to attend this meeting and contribute to its content. Please can you send any questions you want to add to the clerk by the 24th May.

Boxted 10k – volunteers need to prepare the route
In response to the request for volunteers that went out last week we would like to assure everyone that any hedges on the route are not being cut down. We are simply just trimming these to ensure safety to our runners. This will not interfere with any wildlife which is of utmost importance to us all and we are working in co-operation with the Boxted Wildlife group. We realise that some of the wording in this message may have raised a few concerns unnecessarily. Apologies for the context in which this went out. If you would like to get involved in the maintenance of the footpaths before the race in 2 weeks’ time, please do get in touch.
Many thanks

Essex County Council AGM update
Apologies if you were reading this article last week and it came to an abrupt end half way through! We had a ‘technical hitch’ so thought we would publish it again this week.
An update from Cllr Lewis Barber of main points arising from the recent AGM.
We have had our AGM at Essex County Council. This largely deals with constitutional and administrative matters, but in summary:
- A vote on our strategy for rising sea levels. I rejected an approach of mitigation in support of my party’s approach of prevention. My speech will be on my Facebook page later today.
- A further boost to Highways maintenance, with an extra £3m announced. That takes us to an increase of over £17m this financial year.
- A vote on GP Services. This is not an ECC function but as the public health authority, and representatives of what is important to our communities, we of course take an interest. We agreed to work with Anglian Ruskin University to liaise with Government to double the capacity of its medical school. Also, we agreed to take a firmer line with borough/district/city councils to provide adequate health provision in planning applications. ECC has also made representations with the NHS to ensure they respond adequately to planning applications too. This was agreed cross-party and unanimously.
- Waste and Recycling Centres- the trial booking system is under constant review. The cabinet member confirmed that you can now book an appointment for up to 15 minutes before it, based on feedback.
- We elected a new Madam Chairman and Vice Chairman, Cllrs Reeves and Gooding respectively. A thanks to Cllr Johnson for his two years in office. The Chairman is a civic role and acts as the equivalent to Colchester’s Mayor but on a county level.
Any questions, do let me know: Cllr.lewis.barber@essex.gov.uk
A van was broken into and power tools stolen recently in the vicinity of Church Street Field gates in the area also left open. Please be extra vigilant.
