Penny’s on the move
Penny Carmichael is known to many people in the village and loved for her individual personality.
Below is a message from Penny’s son, Dominic Carmichael:
“The family have decided to move our mother, Penny, to live in a new care home in Carmarthen, Wales, just down the road from myself.
“This is something the family has discussed with Mum and she has each time expressed her approval and happiness at the idea.
“This move at this stage is is one of those things where we have weighed up the pros and cons but we do feel that her being close to at least part of her family is the biggest plus especially as she has become frailer. We have found what appears to be a very good care home not disimilar in many ways to Blackbrook in Dedham where she has been living since 2016. So please wish us well.
“We know that Mum would love to say good-bye to all she knew in Boxted and express her thanks for past kindnesses and sociabilities but she can’t so I will do it on her behalf as well as her own.”
The photo above shows Penny on a family outing to Bawdsey in 2021 on one of the family visits.

Hedgehog populations are in decline by up to 75% in varying parts of the UK and could be extinct in 15 years. We are planning a campaign to raise awareness and promote action – making Boxted a Hedgehog Friendly Village. Look out for useful information, family events and talks over the coming months.
