Cost of Living pop-up

Colchester City Council is holding a programme of pop-up events across the city, offering a ‘one stop shop’ where residents can get information, guidance and support to help with the cost of living crisis. 

The council’s Employment and Financial and Communities teams will be offering advice on:

  • Bringing down your household bills
  • Checking you’re receiving all the benefits and discounts you are entitled to
  • Advice about employment and training
  • Managing any worries about debt
  • Ensuring you can access food
  • Advice on how to stay warm this winter
  • Latest information to help keep your business healthy
  • Looking after your physical and mental wellbeing

So why not pop in to the pop up?!

Langham Film Nights

Saturday 25 February

Next presentation will be “Operation Mincemeat” (12A) at the Community Centre, Saturday 25 February. Doors open 7.00 pm; film starts 7.45 pm. Bar and other refreshments available. Tickets £5 each, £5.50 on the door, (card payments preferred) from Langham Community Shop or online at www.langhamcommunitycentre.org.uk

Attempted Burglary – Business And Community 

Suspects unknown climbed onto the roof of business premises causing damage. Suspects attempted entry by forcing the roof with a crowbar. No entry gained. Damage caused. Suspects also removed the grill from a security camera and pointed the camera to the ground.

Suspect unknown gained access by unknown means to the office and cafe within business grounds, causing damage. Till drawer and coin boxes removed, which have been recovered. 
 




Save Boxted Bridge update

 

The crowdfunder has received a big boost with generous support from the Dedham Vale Society  and has raised 81% of the target. 

Thank you to everyone who has sent pledges; with your kind support we are now nearing the the final figure to raise for commissioning a highways planning specialist report challenging Highways proposal to demolish and replace Boxted bridge.

The Boxted W.I. ladies are looking forward to a talk from John Rix on the farming life at Rix farms for their 14 March meeting from 7.30 at the village hall. As many of you will know they are based at Lodge Farm and tend fields in the village. 

The club welcome anyone who would like to join in, even if just for an evening such as this with a small charge on the door. 

If any lady would like to get to know your fellow village ladies a little bit more or even just to join in the fun or enjoy some company you know where we are, just come along! We urge you to give us a try, we have a varied programme of activities throughout the year and guarantee plenty of laughs.

The Edge & The Zone



 

The Zone for 6-11 year olds 5.30pm-7pm and the Edge for 12-18 year olds 7.30pm-9.00pm. Fortnightly during term time at St Peter’s Church. Contact Dominic Sheil 01206 273324

The Langham Community Centre hosts a wide range of regular clubs and unique activities. Many of these groups would welcome new members, so don’t hesitate to browse the ‘Activities’ page  on the website or see the Facebook page to find out more.

Green Energy Consultation

A petition has been set up to ‘SAY NO TO 180km of Essex Suffolk Norfolk pylons’ and is asking the Government to look realistically to the green future and build a strategic offshore grid instead. You can find the petition at  www.pylonseastanglia.co.uk  or you can write to local MP Sir Bernard Jenkin – bernard.jenkin.mp@parliament.uk  who is chair of OffSET (the Off-Shore Electricity Grid Task Force). 
 


St Peter’s Markets Plants


 

Over 500 plants are for sale in aid of Langham with Boxted Church Funds.
