Rapid Transit System

The proposals for Colchester’s new Rapid Transit System (RTS) across the borough will start to come to fruition from the week commencing 16th January when Colchester and Essex Councils begin work on the scheme.

This phase of the RTS will implement a segregated bus lane from/to the A12 from/to the centre (and eventually beyond) and will also see a segregated cycle lane and pedestrian infrastructure, as well as green spacing. The initial works will prepare for this first phase. There will be traffic management in place during this period up until end of February (not closures), although this is limited to 10am-3pm to avoid peak travel time.

There will be some tree removals as part of this initial work but there will be semi-mature replacements to these trees on top of both Councils tree planting schemes.

Full details of the plans can be found below.

Busy Christmas period for Methodist Band

Members of Boxted Methodist Silver Band rounded off the Band’s 20-plus performances during December with a busy night on Christmas Eve. The three hours started with a visit to Stanway to play outside the home of John Polley who celebrated his 90th birthday on Christmas Day. He grew up in Boxted and has been a member of the Band for more than 80 years.

Next they played outside the home of the Band’s Chairman, Sir Bob Russell, near Colchester Fire Station before heading to Boxted where they played at several locations in the village.

Boxted Methodist Silver Band is the only surviving Methodist Band in England. The Band celebrates its 125th anniversary in the coming year.
